WHAT HAPPENS IN A BOWEN SESSION?
In the first session you will have a chat with the Bowen therapist about your current condition, your lifestyle, injuries in the past etc. for the therapist to get a broad picture of you before treatment. In most cases you will be asked to fill in a brief client information sheet.

A maximum of two people, you and your therapist, should be in the same room during the procedure. Other family members or friends should wait outside the room unless treating a baby or child.

In most cases you will be dressed in comfortable underwear during a Bowen session. Bowen can also be done through light clothing, ensuring greatest comfort and best results. Treatment is conducted on a couch or seated if necessary.

Your Bowen therapist will also leave the room after every move for a minimum of 2 minutes to allow the energy to work on your body. Every move sends signals to the brain and the responses start during the very first treatment.

Try not to talk too much during your Bowen session and allow your mind to relax and free yourself from any concerns and worries. This will allow for muscle tension release and activation of the body’s healing process.

The location of the moves for Bowen therapy are across most areas of the body, especially the lower and upper back, neck, legs, arms and head. You may be asked to turn over during the Bowen session or to turn your head from one side to the other.

You may feel warmth, tingling in some areas and some moves may feel sensitive. Do inform your therapist when you encounter any feelings and sensations.

Treatments are generally one week apart and frequently clients will only need two or three treatments. Lots of clients choose to come for monthly “maintenance”.

Treatment sessions can last from 10 minutes to up to an hour and sometimes over.
