I am also trained in Mind Body Bowen (MBB).
These sessions can help to work on emotional problems that might be the source of physical illness and discomfort. (“Your Body Speaks Your Mind” by Debbie Shapiro)
Generally speaking, most of us think of our bodies and minds as separate systems and believe they function, for the most part, independently.
The Mind Body approach works on the principle that the body and the mind are a closed loop system.
When have you last been for a job interview or went on that most important first date? No doubt you wanted to appear calm and collected but at the same time you were feeling quite self-conscious and nervous. Can you recall how your body felt?
Self-consciousness will tighten your buttock muscles, you will sweat more than usual, may feel slightly nauseous etc… In other words, your psycho-emotional state affects you physically.
Emotional pain is just as real as physical pain and can be far more invasive.
Long-held resentments, bitterness, hurt, fear, guilt and shame all play their role in debilitating your energy. All these feelings have their effect on the body: on your immune system, your blood circulation, your digestion, and so on.
Negative emotions block the flow of energy in the body. The latest thinking in quantum biology indicates that emotions rapped in the body have the real possibility of creating functional blockages in the neurology (the nervous system). Trapped emotions could actually cause the brain to send wrong signals to the various organs in the body, or perhaps no signals at all. That means that negative emotions in the body, which we haven’t let go of, can be not only the sources of discomfort, but also the source of serious physical problems.
Mind Body Bowen can facilitate the release of these memories stored in your body’s cells and at the same time bring physical relief.
The moves are the same, the breaks between them are longer and attention is given to the physical sensation the body is experiencing.
MBB helps to recognise, acknowledge and release memories on a cellular level.
There is more talking involved in an MBB session but it is not considered a counselling session.
